When you push hard with a charcoal pencil you are not going to have a reflective glare that you may have with graphite. Graphite Pencils! Graphite pencils are great for skin tones, glass, porcelain, shiny metal, smooth fabrics and paper objects. You can also use it for light shading such as in the whites of eyes.
Carbon Pencils! Carbon pencils provide you with a warmer tone. They are excellent for using in combination with both charcoal and graphite, because they allow you to make similar objects stand out in your drawings.
Consider Your Subject! When drawing with pencils it is important to consider your subject. Once you have that decided then you will want to choose the best techniques and materials that you are going to use. Determine if you want to use graphite, charcoal or carbon pencils.
