Angel Drawing
The History!
Angel drawing has a deep history in the many famous artists of the Renaissance.
It was during this time that artists such as Leonardo Da Vinci and Michelangelo created numerous masterpieces that are now coveted pieces of art.
Famous Angels!
There are several famous angels in history. You may not know them by name but you do know them by sight. This is because these prolific artists sketched and drew these drawings all over Italy. These artists did work under a certain religious framework, as most of their work is displayed in various churches and chapels throughout Rome.
Innocence!
You must capture the innocence of the angel to be truly effective. It is more than putting paint or lines on canvas. Angels must have a unique blend of lines and colors to show their true spirit.
Practice!
To effectively draw angels, artists should become very familiar with the history of art and the angels themselves.
Figure drawing practice can also aid a person in their quest. Angels are people and they have the same proportions and types of bodies as people. The only main difference is that they have wings and are often dressed in toga-like clothing that hangs and swaddles around their bodies.
Inspiration!
To find some real inspiration, consider surfing the Internet for photos of the great artist’s renditions of angels for the Bible. Most of these were drawn or painted during the Renaissance and they have the innocent style that you look for. In these paintings you will find art by Raphael, Michelangelo, Peter Paul Rubens and several other great Renaissance artists. Many are Cupid-like angels that are seen hovering above the Virgin Mary and Baby Jesus. These paintings, including the paintings on the ceiling and walls of the Sistine Chapel are very inspirational to those artists who are interested in angel drawing.
